Turning a sentence into a question

The test asked non specifically to turn "Elles sont parties avant la fin du film" into a question. While I know that I can reverse the order of the subject and the conjugated verb, isn't it also ok to use the phrase "est-ce qu' "?
My response "Est-ce qu'elles sont parties avant la fin du film" was marked incorrect and I am unclear why

"traditionnelle" before or after noun?In a writing challenge, a correct answer was "et nous avons fini avec la traditionnelle bûche de Noël". Googling, I find things like "Musée du Costume Traditionnel" and many more example where this adjective comes after the noun. So why is it before the noun in the writing challenge?

and 2, I have heard before that if you crete a notebook, you can test just on that topic but I have never found a test attached to it or a link.

How do i reconstruct the question "où a-t-elle appris le francais" to include est-ce que?If i follow the rule, then it should be "où est-ce que a-t-elle appris le francais" but is that correct?

infos versus nouvelles

All through the piece "news" is translated as "infos" except in the last sentence when it is "nouvelles". Any special reason for this, beyond some idiosyncrasy of language?
