I've re-read the lesson on when to use "d'autres" and "des autres" and I don't quite understand why "the taste of others" is "le goût des autres". I thought that would only be the case if it was specific other people "the taste of the others", and in the case of this film title it should be "le goût d'autres" - a general case of the taste of unspecified others. What am I missing here please?
A quick question regarding this sentence, Je n'avais pas L'habitude de prendre le train." My answer was "I don't usually take the train." Like saying that I usually drive so I don't usually take the train." The correct answer was "I didn't usually take the train." That just sounds wrong to my ears. Could it be a typo and should have read "I didn't used to take the train." If not can you please explain the latter sentence. Perhaps with an example of two for context.
Does anyone know why you say:
Je joue du piano but then you say: Je joue de la harpe
Does anyone know what the rule is for if you use Je joue de la or Je joue du?
Both quiz questions are affirmative statements using verbs that do not use the subjunctive in the affirmative.
Thus, the answers do not use the subjunctive.
But the lesson is about using these verbs in the subjunctive in negative statements.
The first sentence uses J'ai passe' for "I have passed." To me, this should be je passais (imparfait). The writer is not describing a unique instance of an event in the past but rather he is making a general description of his actions in the past. He is describing multiple instances.
"What are we going to make his eyes and nose with?" Martine then asked. This was translated: "Avec quoi va-t-on faire ses yeux et son nez?" a alors demandé Martine.
I used: "Qu'est-ce qu'on va utiliser pour lui faire ses yeux et son nez?" Martine a ensuite demandé.
Would that also be acceptable?
