Expressing lateness

I am not clear why my answer ( the second one) is not also correct based on the lesson. What am I missing?

1.How would you say "I am ten minutes late." ?

J'ai dix minutes de retard. CORRECT

Je suis en retard de dix minutes. INCORRECT - Why??

I just got an email reply back (from sending in the error-at least 5 days ago- through that Report function) and they said to post here. Someone should look into that.
