Why not du plus instead of aussi? Why not en fait for in fact?

Excellent. But is is hardly 'Beginners' French. Those who really are genuinely new to the language would be put off by the linguistic demands of these pieces.

Isn't 'santé féminin and so shouldn't the word 'bon' be bonne? 

You correctly noted that they went camping, but the passage specifically states that only the children and their father were away ("les enfants sont partis camper avec leur père"), rather than the whole family.  "  I feel this is obvious as the writer - the mother was at home.  This is obviously not a question but  my opinion.

Just wanted to point out that both Bescherelle and Word Reference say that "je m'asseids, etc." are more common, Bescherelle says it's preferable. French verbs are confusing enough for me, so I'm making my choice for one variation not both.

This passage uses potirons for pumpkins, but last year didn't we have citrouilles for pumpkins?  Are they two words for the same thing or is there a slight difference for using each one?

This lesson indicates that mal - badly, but why do we say j'ai mal à la tête instead of j'ai mauvais à la tête?
