The story talks about Arthur's new tennis shoes. Would it not be too much to assume they are brand new, just bought for the return to school, in which case ’neuf’ might be appropriate? It wasn't one of the possibilities. I am a little unclear as to when to use neuf.

In a quiz, I used brun instead of marron. Why is it wrong?
