But sometimes "celles" ... means "these", as in "Celles sont les miennes." Right?

Plural partitive?Some sources name a "plural partitive" - des. This lesson doesn't though. I can't really see how something could be uncountable and plural at the same time. Would you agree?

Gender of hyphenated nounsIn A1, there is a long lesson that tries to tell us how to infer a word's gender based on word ending patterns. Based on that, I can correctly guess that both "lave" and "vaisselle" are feminine, so why does dictionaries tell me "lave-vaisselle" is masculine ?

face à versus en face de -- Quelle est la difference?

My french teacher only speaks in French. She was trying to explain the difference between "face à" and "en face de" but the nuance was lost on me. Can someone explain in English? Merci!

a été réveillé vs était réveillé

In filling in the blank for Bob __ par la reveil tous les jours (Bob was awaken by the alarm every day), I typed "a été réveillé par" instead of "était réveillé". Could you help me understand why the imparfait was incorrect? Thanks!
