differnce between -ant and -er/-ir/-re

Hi,

since using the -ant and the infinitive both mean -ing in english, what's the difference between them and when would you use one and not the other?

Why can you use inversion with nouns in this expression?According to the lesson 'Forming inverted questions with names, things and emphasis', you can't use inversion with nouns (for example, 'Vient Sophie?'); you need to add a pronoun ('Sophie vient-elle?'). But here in the examples we see 'Comment vont tes enfants?' and 'Comment va Paul?'. Why isn't it 'Comment tes enfants vont?' or 'Comment tes enfants vont-ils?' Is this a peculiarity of this particular expression, or are there other cases where inversion can be used with nouns with no pronoun?

How come?To the question (How come) Pauline porte cette robe? My answer 'Comment cela se fait-il que....' is rejected for 'Comment ca se fait'. Yet in the lesson we are told that my answer is the more 'elegant' French. Please explain.

Hi Chris, I found the following sentences in other website (I 'm not sure whether we can discuss things from other sources):

(1) J'aimerais aller dans le collège. (2) Je veux aller dans la jungle. (3) On va aller dans le bureau

"dans" in these 3 sentences mean "to". Can I conclude that 'dans' and "à" are interchangable when they mean "to"?

Using "non" to replace "n'est-ce pas"

What about adding "non" at the end of a question when seeking confirmation?

Such as "Tu parles anglais, non?" as a shorthand for "Tu parles anglais, n'est-ce pas?"

Thanks Chris. That's a little more confusing than I expected because it says in the lesson that aucun/aucune are always singular.I know this should be an answer to your question Chris but there is a bug in Kwiziq that sometimes doesn't all submitting new questions or answers.

How to differentiate between à and dans when both mean 'to'? (For location other than countries, cities, continents, regions, states, etc) Like going 'to' a market, school, or some other place

Miam, c'est délicieux! Why not il est?Miam, c'est délicieux! Why not il est? It's referring to something specific (the delicious specific thing being eaten), I assume, since we don't see the sentences before it.
