"Sarah didn't use to trust ..." is poor English. The correct form is "Sarah used not to trust ...".

De peur que versus pour que?I wonder if yoy could write il viendra de peur que tu ne sois pas vexée as il viendra pour que tu ne sois pas vexée and if so translate it as he will come so that you will not be offended. I am just trying to work out how the subjunctive works out in english.

De versus Pour with "for doing" expressionsI've used this expression on my French mentor several times and he hasn't corrected me: "Merci pour m'avoir appelé." I've also read and heard expressions like this several times: "Merci DE m'avoir prévenu." Are the words "de" and "pour" interchangeable in this type of expression? Many thanks in advance

Please review the logic behind "Quand on ouvre les cadeaux ?" being incorrectPlease go back to the logic behind why "Comment tu vas" (question - subject - verb) is correct, but "Quand on ouvre les cadeaux ?" is an incorrect question form. They both have the same structure of Question - subject - verb. Thanks you so much for your help. Tom

Encore vs ToujoursDear Aurelie, Why is "you must still know" "Il faut encore connaitre" and not "Il faut toujours connaitre" ? I thought that toujours worked better for still. could toujours be used? Thank you, Leah

Are these are examples of ne explétif Hello, I have started reading L'etranger by Albert Camus recently. I see the following two sentences with the use of ne and no other negative words (like "pas" or "rien", etc). Are they examples of Ne Explétif", or is there another explanation? 1. "Puis il m’a serré la main qu’il a gardée si long- temps que je ne savais trop comment la retirer." 2. "Vous ne pouviez subvenir à ses besoins." Merci beaucoup en avance!
