To go camping. In the writing challenge: "Camping in the woods":
The phrase "It was the first time she'd gone camping on her own,"is translated as any of:
1. "C'était la première fois qu'elle allait camper seule, "
2. "C'était la première fois qu'elle allait camper toute seule,"3. "C'était la première fois qu'elle allait faire du camping seule, "4. "C'était la première fois qu'elle allait faire du camping toute seule"Questions:
1. According to Kwiziq's "Vocabulaire - Le camping", "faire du camping" means "go camping" so using it with "aller" seems superfluous if not actually incorrect. Shouldn't translations 3 and 4 be more like "...faisait du camping..."?2. To translate "she'd gone camping" (i.e. "she had gone camping") differently from "she went camping" shouldn't the translation use the Plus-que-parfait - not the Imparfait? Why do all of the translations use the Imparfait?3. Why is "toute" used in translations 2 and 4? As I understand it "toute" is used for emphasis here but if the English phrase had wanted emphasis it could have used something like "all on her own" or "on her very own".

Direct vs indirect object

Bonjour,

There was a sentence I was working on

Do not call them after eight P.M! For this sentence the answer was

Ne Les appelle pas après huit du soir. Are they using Les here as the direct object because their is no preposition for it to be indirect?

Also why is the pronoun y in this sentence after the conjugated verb?

Tu devrais y prêter attention?

Je fumais depuis des années quand j’ai décidé d’arrêterThe English translation that you give is not normally what one would say. We would say “I had been smoking...” not “I was smoking...”...the plus perfect not the imperfect. In French would one ever use the plus que parfait as we do in English?

I'm struggling with the difference in rules between ce que / que and ce qui / qui. Is it correctly understood that we use either "ce que" or "qui" when followed by an object (so the rule is different with/without the ce, unlike with verbs and reflexive pronounse)? Are these two sentences correct, "sa maman" being an object here?

Tu ne devineras jamais ce qui sa maman a fait!

Le bébé joue avec la peluche que sa maman adore.

Conjugation of 'luire' in the passé simpleI have checked the rule and your answer does not follow the rule. Therefore I checked conjugation tables for luire which support the notion that your answer is incorrect, and that the correct answer was not present. According to these conjugation tables Luire in the passé simple has these conjugations: je luisis tu luisis il luisit "Now the city would fall into the 3rd category 3rd person singular and so the correct answer is surely luisit - Ian
