Use of feminine suffix on fascinee

Why is fascinee given with a feminine suffix in the sentence "Je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion d'y aller, mais ca m'a toujours fascinee." What does it refer to? Le cimitiere, peut -etre?? It doesn't appear that there is a feminine object for it to describe. Please explain

Why derniere, not passee?

Can one not say "la semaine passee", to mean the same thing as "la semaine derniere"? (I can't find accents)

French for "Away"In "Quand le chat n'est pas là, les souris dansent," "n'est pas là" would direclty translate to "is not there." What else could one use to imply "away" ?

Would "absent" work?
