learning French language or learning how to use a computerSince I am «old school» and did not grow up with computers, I am always curious if the online educational sites are for the purpose of simply getting people to learn to use a computer correctly or if they are for the purpose of learning the subject matter presented. To that goal, is this a user group to learn the French language or to learn the computer usage with the French language as the medium? I hope someone can/will answer this.

I don't think!Would there be much of a difference between. I don't think it is interesting and I think it is not interesting. The first would be wth subjunctive and the second with the indicative. Would there be any preference to use one rather than the other. Would there be a slight change in meaning? thankyou.

With perfect tense?Salut, In the example it says 'nous n'avons acheté aucune voiture' so does this not follow the normal rule with negatives that it goes around the auxiliary verb in the perfect tense? Merci!

agreement of adjectives when two adjectives describe the same nounBonjour! I thought that if two adjectives were being used to describe the same noun, then you wrote these adjectives both in the masculine form, even if the noun is feminine, e.g. Elle a acheté une nouvelle robe blanc et noir. Yet, the correct answer in a quizz I did was "les canines blanches et pointres", not "blancs et pointres". Can someone please explain this? Cheryl.

«Je sais le faire» means

In the test the correct answer is "I can do it". Based on my current knowledge, it literally means "I know how to do it"

Is this just a case of creative license in translation?

Why the S'Y?

I have just run across this sentence in my reading, and I don't understand how/why the adverbial pronoun is used:

The introductory sentence is part of a conversation:

-Vous ignorez qu'il est le propriétaire des parfums et des produits de beauté Mylène?

This is followed by the following sentence, which is the author's omnipotent observation about how little Maigret knew about perfumes:

Il s'y connaissait si peu en produits de beauté!

I understand what is being communicated, but I don't understand the grammar!

Please explain why the "s'y" construction is in this sentence.

In the sentencenous avons ouvert les fenêtres de peur qu'il n'y ait un fuite de gas.In the sentence, which may not be exactly correct, but is more or les as i remeber it, the translatio is ....for frar that there would be a gas leak. Can this be translated as might be or even as there is a gas leak. Like many english people i am a bit hazy about the subjunctive in my own language, hence the question.

"Je manque à elle" vs. "Elle me manque"

I was deeply confused by this, but I think I now understand.

I can say "Mon chat me manque.", or "Mon chat manque à Jean.". HOWEVER,

"Mon chat manque à moi" and "Mon chat manque à elle" are NOT correct.

Am I understanding this correctly?
