Bonjour à tous, je m'appelle minhaz.

I have started learning french which makes me a basic beginner in this language.

I have a question related to a sentence which is "it is good to laugh sometimes".

In french it is written as "C'est bon de rire parfois".

As I know that "to" is said as "à" in French.

My question is why it is not written as

C'est bon à rire parfois

If no antecedent, which direct object pronoun?In these examples and on the B2 test, I think that if the gender of the singular direct object pronoun's antecedent is unspecified, the masculine «le» should be used. E.g., "I'm giving it to you." = «Je vous le donne», "I give it to him" = «Je le lui donne». The correct response in the lesson and on the test was to use the feminine «la» in both cases. ??

Difference of using vouloir in the passé composé rather than the imparfait...

Hi, I have a very similar question... with this example from the quiz...

Tu ________ me piéger mais ça n'a pas marché !

You wanted to trick me but it didn't work!HINT: Conjugate vouloir in Le Passé Composé (conversational past)I think I understand that the 'wanted' with vouloir is a one time 'wanting'...is that why we are using the passé composé? In my mind, I think of wanting as an undetermined amount of time as I don´t see a trigger for something specific. Could you help me understand this better? Perhaps I am still thinking in Spanish more than in French? Thanks so much!

English translation of "une ovation publique".I wonder about the colloquial English translation of "une ovation publique". " A public ovation" is not a phrase which I have ever seen used, and for which I can't find an example on the internet. "Ovation" in English is almost universally used as a "standing ovation" for which the French appears to be "une ovation debout".
