lui (direct object pronoun) + (nous) indirect object pronounThe question says, "Il le lui a refusé ? - Oui, il nous l'a refusé aussi."

Aren't we using indirect object with "refuser?" Why do we use "nous" here in the second sentence? Merci!

C´est vs Elle est

Hello, I am wondering why to use "c´est" instead of "elle est" to translate "she is an angel". Doesn't "c´est" mean "it is", used to describe an object? Can you use "c´est" about a person and why is it better than simply saying "elle est"?

pour queI used "afin que" in the last sentence. Kwizbot corrected me to "pour que". However, I see in the text above that "afin que" is employed. I suspect these are interchangeable in any event.

why plus-que-parfait and not just imparfait

Quand j'étais en vacances au bord de la mer, j'ai eu l'opportunité d'aller faire de l'équitation sur la plage. J'avais toujours eu envie de le faire...

I'd like some help understanding why plus-que-parfait is used in the second sentence. Is it because the desire to ride horseback on the beach is before the also past action of having had the opportunity to do so? I think the English translation was "I had always wanted to do it" and my brain wasn't able to place this as a past feeling-before-a-past action! So tricky...

Understanding an/annee; jour/journee; matin/matinee; soir/soiree

Dear Cecile and Maarten,

Thank you both for your explanations. I have read the lesson you refer to several times, as well as the relevant links, (and done the kwizes), but I still get a little confused with this issue. I plan to review this subject regularly, as I have found by doing so I eventually achieve an understanding of subjects that at first are not clear to me. I am wondering if maybe the lesson could be expanded someway to include more exercise questions or if it could be broken up into several separate lessons? Perhaps "an/annee" could have its own lesson?
