All of this is in the present (with the exception of one other passe compose (a dish that i've tasted) & one subjunctive). Why is the sentence "I really feel like I am travelling to the Roaring Twenties" translated using passe compose?
My first thought was that the narrator in this sentence moved into a memory, hence the past--that is, she once HAD that impression when in Paris. But, the same could be said for other sentences: "What I like above all, (it) is the relaxed atmosphere . . " It seems all of these sentences relate an ongoing feeling or attitude toward La brasserie La Coupole, so I don't understand why the passe compose is used in this sentence.
I put in "Le lapin EST disparu" and I was marked as wrong. "A paru" was given as the only correct answer.
The sentence :
Je suis aussi allé acheter une nouvelle bibliothèque que j’ai passé plus de deux heures à monter.
The hint given was ‘la bibliothèque’.
I took this to mean that passé should agree with bibliothèque and wrote passée.
I was using the rule for the ‘case of subordinate clauses with que’. Why am I wrong here?
this combination of verb tenses in a si claus/result statemnet seems at odds with what I've learned about them.
why not "si tu avais besoin d'aide, je serais ravie de t'aider" as a second condtional or
"si tu as besoin d'aide, je serai ravie de t'aider" as a first condtional?
“Sa mère et moi l'avons seulement assistée avec les démarches administratives.”. Hi, ”sa mère” (mother is female) “et moi” (“moi” is the father, who is male) “avons assistée” (first-person plural passé composé). We have a mixture of male and female forming the “we”, so should the past participle be “assisté” and not “assistée”? Thanks.
Are 'ou non' and 'ou pas' interchangeable? If not, how do I know when to use each one? Examples I have come across in my studies: "Que tu l'admettes ou non, ce ne sont pas tes amis." and "C'est comme ça qu'elle veuille l'accepter ou pas.
Why is this phrase not ""Tu as les billets ? Oui, je les en ai tous."
