Thanks for the encouragement on the world environmental outlook as well as your encouragement of our sometimes snail like progress. I did this exercise 3 years ago and improved from 49 to 53. While I have made some meager progress, I feel the world, particularly with what just happened in the USA, is moving in the other direction. Nevertheless, I will continue the march toward toward fluency. What would help would be the ability to review your mistakes from past exercises. If there is a way to do this, I don't know how. In any case, thanks for your support and keep the challenges coming !
All the examples of the use of "De peur que..." are followed the use of the "ne explitif+ the subjunctive"
"Il ne voulait pas te le dire de peur que tu n'aies raison" He didn't want to tell you out of fear that you'd be right"
I assume that when "De peur que..." is followed by a possible negative result, the subjunctive is still used:
"Il ne voulait pas te le dire de peur que tu ne sois pas surpris." He didn't want to tell you out of fear that you wouldn't be surprised.
(Apologies if there is a lesson on the use of "De peur que + the subjunctive", I don't see a link here and I didn't find one listed under lessons.)
As always,
Merci beaucoup,
Hilary
why is it: ils ont des dollars et des euro.
Why use des, not les as money is coutable?
What is the difference between what "quel" quel dommage and "comment" as in comment-tu t'appelle
Please help me understand why the response in the following example isn't "J'en pense la plus grande bien!" Is "plus grand bien" a colloquial and unmodifiable phrase? Merci !
Que penses-tu de cette exposition ? - J'en pense le plus grand bien !Please could someone explain why "d'" is used? Why isn't it: et une belle enveloppe decoree? (Please forgive lack of accents within decoree)
I thought that se rappeler does not require a de preposition unless it comes before a verb. Why does she say "Je m'en rappelle ..." in the last sentence and not "je me le rappelle ....?" Merci !
quelle luxe ou quel luxe ?
"Elle est la seule personne qui puisse m'aider = She is the only person who can help me"
Pourquoi pouvons-nous utiliser le subjonctif dans cette phrase ?
