Similar to the question previously from Frank on 'choose a/my career' (and as G noted in his response), the English to be translated is "I found teachers fascinating" but only 'mes professeurs' is accepted. Either the English should be changed to 'my teachers' or "les professeurs" added to the accepted translation.
Eyes, Nose, lips, ears, palms of the hand?
I understand now that:
In French there is no “like” as in English. Something doesn’t smell like chocolate, it just “smells chocolate”.
So, you would say: Ça sent le chocolat
But how would you say "Who smells chocolate?"
Qui sent le chocolat ?
Whereas Qu'est-ce qui sent le chocolat is the longer way of saying "What smells like chocolate"
Is this correct?
Or would you have to say something like: qui peut sentir le chocolat ?
*Eux* seuls sont venus - why this is correct and not - Ils seuls sont venus
Why is it "Nous faisons des progrès" instead of "le progrès?
It is the 'like' that confuses me there is no 'like' eg ça sent comme du chocolate. I cannot grasp 'who' is smelling or 'what' is smelling and I get it wrong each time!!!
Or how to send this quesiton!!!!! Caroline
Wow, I just must say that this one in every sentence had idiomatique phrases of which I've never heard, or seen introduced in any of your lessons. I'm not sure of the value of having to make so many guesses on what I'm hearing, since context gives almost no clue with those type of phrases. Isn't the point of these to recognize what you've learned?
I'm having more trouble with this lesson than any other so far. I just can't seem to grasp it the way it's presented here. If anyone has links to helpful videos to supplement it, I would really appreciate it.
Can you say Tu n’y étais pas instead of Tu n’ étais pas là to mean You wern’t there?
