Hello,
I hear a rhotic r sound in majestueuse. Is this a regional difference in accent?
Thank you
D’aussi loin qu’elle se souvienne: I get confused about the translation of ‘could’ in this context and had translated this as : ‘D’aussi loin qu’elle pouvait se souvenir’. Can you direct me to an explanation of when ‘could’ is not a tense of pouvoir but a subjunctive?
Quelle est la différence d'utilisation entre les magasins, les commerces et les boutiques ? Est-ce une question de taille, de spécialisation, etc. ?
I get that "magasin" is generally a retail outlet & "commerce" is more for small business, but I've seen them used interchangeably. In the States "boutique" is usually for high-end or very niche-oriented items, but that doesn't always seem to track en français.
Les livres desquels je pense sont remarquable. The books I am thinking of are remarkable; the preposition here is de.
A post further down says "soit..soit is used when followed by anything other than a verb". I’ve just done a quiz elsewhere where the answer they wanted was "Soit tu mets du déodorant, soit je te quitte"! Is this a usage that exists but isn’t good French? If so, what’s a better way to express it? I can’t imagine "soit que" is very common and "que" + subjunctive verb seems to be a yes/no situation (eg que tu le mettes ou pas) rather than offering two alternative verbs.
Thank you.
When I take the quizzes, the answers I choose aren't the ones showing when I get the review. It seems the quiz is changing my answers. Is anyone else experiencing this?
