Je fumais depuis..... is used above. The Imperfect with Depuis. In another lesson it said that only the present tense is used with depuis. Which is correct?
Pourquoi pas : commencé à bavader ou causer?
Hello!
Just a question regarding the usage of venir vs. être when saying where one is from:
This lesson notes " To say which city you are from in French, you will use the following expression: Je viens de + [city]". One example given is "Je viens de Londres / I am from London". (And no alternative to "venir de" is mentioned in the lesson).
However, a related lesson (À = To/in and De = From/of with cities in French (French Prepositions of Location)) gives an example using "être" to say where one is from: Je suis de La Rochelle / I'm from La Rochelle.
It seems there is a subtle difference in meaning (I am from vs. I come from), however in both of the above cases the translation given is "I am from".
Could someone clarify if venir and être are interchangeable in this context, or if there are specific uses for each?
The examples of use of the passive voice use is, will be, would be, was and used to be. Please provide an example of "had been". Is it for example "La souris avait été par le chat"?
why is recevrez, the future tense being asked for? wouldn't ce weekend indicate a "near future action " and so take the present tense?
In the first sentence of this exercise, "the thief" has been translated as "le criminel" when I think "le voleur" would be a more accurate translation. Also in that first line, the punctuation in French is different from the original English (but that is probably less important)
HI,
I am confused with how this is laid out.
Are all ER verbs have a silent e in them/? due to the non pronounced e shcwa?
What makes jouer and crier different from your other examples like manger and parler?
In very formal spoken french would you be required to speak these e's - for example in poetry?
en tant que b2/c1, combien du texte est-ce que je suis censé comprendre ? je comprends 90% mais je n'ai pas connu les noms des pays... je devrais les apprendre ?
How to say "I will arrive": j'arrive or je va arrive?
