Just wondered if we can say "Il faisait froid tout hier soir" to emphasize "all night long"(though it doesn't seems correct to me).
Both of the sentences above are translated as "J'ai du le faire".
BUT the two formulations in English have not-very-subtle differences in meaning.
"I had to..." implies "I was obligated to.." or "I was forced to..." - very definite!
"I must have..." implies "I may have forgotten to ..." -- quite indefinite!
How are these different flavors of meaning expressed en francais?

Me being a beginner of the language French, usage of Alors and Donc baffles me.
Can someone help me of how to use both these in practical context.

La partie de la phrase, en anglais, est "...I don't have a choice..." Mon interprétation d'anglais était une choix ou du choix et ce n'est pas un particulier choix, qui demanderait l'article 'le'. Dans ce cas, j'ai écrit "...je n'ai pas de choix" ce qui était faux. Est-ce que mon interprétation n'est pas correct ? Pourquoi "le choix" au lieu de "de choix"?
Would this be incorrect: "On n'a vingt ans qu'une fois" ?
Confused again.. your examples all use the form “il est dix heures vingt-cinq”.. in response to “quelle heure est-il”, would c’est dix heures vingt-cinq be equally acceptable?
Is there a rule as to whether à or de follows a verb?
